A lot of people are thinking about their New Year's resolutions at this time of year. This is the year they hope to make a name for themselves. Big changes are desired. They want to do something bold. They aim to have the best year of their lives this year. They're aiming for a historic victory.
New year, that doesn't mean you have to change for the better; it simply means you have to be a better version of yourself. I need to make up for my flaws and excel in all I do. I promised myself that I would do all in my power to avoid doing anything terrible. I will do whatever makes me happy and will not be influenced by the opinions of others. Even when I fail, I will keep going and moving forward, using my setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow. I will always be grateful for the little things in life and remember to thank God first before anything else. This year, I'll adore myself even more than before.
Over the years, I've lived my life with pleasing others, toxicity, always thinking badly, and being influenced by others' perceptions of me. Those were the years that shaped me into a well-rounded and developed young lady while also causing me pain. It's been a difficult year for me, but I've learned a lot and I'm grateful that I survived.

Your sentence: "New year, that doesn't mean you have to change for the better; it simply means you have to be a better version of yourself", I definitely have to agree with you. You just have to upgrade yourself, right? There's no need to completely change everything about you for you'll just lose yourself. To change is to mature mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
