Vaccines for Children

To completely comprehend how COVID-19 vaccines can benefit the community, we must first explain what a vaccine is in general. A vaccine, according to the Vaccine Knowledge Project, is a form of drug that prepares the body's immune system to combat a disease it has never encountered before. Vaccines are intended to prevent disease rather than to treat it once it has occurred. Vaccines expose the body to viruses in a safe manner so that the immune system can produce antibodies that can bind to their antigens. This enables the immune system to combat a specific disease-causing infection if it comes into contact with it again in the future.

As stated by the World Health Organization website, COVID-19 vaccines can cause mild-to-moderate side effects, such as a low-grade fever or pain or redness at the injection site. These should go away on their own within a few days. The Pfizer vaccine is being used since it is the only one that has gained emergency use approval from the Philippines' Food and Drug Administration for children aged 5 to 11. Vaccines have been proven safe and effective for kids aged 5 to 11. They are given a lesser dose and concentration of the Pfizer vaccination than children aged 12 to 17. The more people and children are vaccinated, the more protected we all are against COVID-19. Together we can help prevent new variants from emerging. We can slow down COVID-19 in its tracks.
