LAST ONEEE!!!!

This third quarter was difficult not only for me, but also for my classmates and other students. Much has transpired in our country, and the government continues to disappoint us with failed missions and pledges, as well as questionable decisions, leaving us with little reason to continue pursuing and carrying out these tasks. COVID-19 cases continue to rise as a result of their negligence, and quarantines have been reinstated in our country. Because of the absence of gadgets and the terrible internet connection we have at home, children now have only digital access to education. This has created another barrier for students and even teachers to overcome. Life has been challenging throughout the pandemic, not only for students but also for teachers. I intended to spend more time at school with my classmates, but owing to the current conditions, this is not possible. Moving forward, I plan to work even harder and improve on what I've accomplished this academic year. We're almo...

Vaccines for Children

To completely comprehend how COVID-19 vaccines can benefit the community, we must first explain what a vaccine is in general. A vaccine, according to the Vaccine Knowledge Project, is a form of drug that prepares the body's immune system to combat a disease it has never encountered before. Vaccines are intended to prevent disease rather than to treat it once it has occurred. Vaccines expose the body to viruses in a safe manner so that the immune system can produce antibodies that can bind to their antigens. This enables the immune system to combat a specific disease-causing infection if it comes into contact with it again in the future. As stated by the World Health Organization website, COVID-19 vaccines can cause mild-to-moderate side effects, such as a low-grade fever or pain or redness at the injection site. These should go away on their own within a few days. The Pfizer vaccine is being used since it is the only one that has gained emergency use approval from the Philippin...

Araw ng Kagitingan

In the Philippines, Araw ng Kagitingan is a non-working holiday that falls on a long weekend. On this day, World War II veterans parade in various places around the Philippines. There are modest parades throughout the Philippines, but the primary feature of the Araw ng Kagitingan is when the country's president delivers a speech at the Mt Samat shrine in Bataan province to remember the heroism of Filipino and American troops during World War II. Araw ng Kagitingan is a Philippine national holiday that falls on or around April 9. Many streets will be closed, and public transportation routes may be rerouted to accommodate the parades. Malls and other recreational locations are open, and most people may go there and spend the day with their families. If you ask me, it is only appropriate that we remember the sacrifices that our warriors had to make, as well as the hardships and tribulations that they had to undergo, all for the sake of our freedom. Take notice that they contribu...

Lenten Season

Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday and finishes at sundown on Holy Thursday, is a 40-day period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It's a time of preparation for Easter, when we celebrate the Lord's Resurrection. We pray to the Lord by reading Sacred Scripture, serve by giving alms, and cultivate self-control by fasting during Lent. During Lent, we are called not only to refrain from indulgences, but also to a deep interior conversion of heart as we attempt to more truly follow Christ's wishes. We remember the waters of baptism, where we were baptized into Christ's death, death to sin and evil, and new life in Christ. Many people are familiar with the tradition of not eating meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also encouraged to exhibit self-control and fast in various ways during the season. In this reflection, consider the purpose and roots of the Lenten fasting tradition. Furthermore, almsgiving is one method to share God's gifts not only through moneta...

Kannawidan Festival

A festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur commemorating the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. This festival is a showcase of indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well cooking demos featuring the best of Ilocano dishes. As the Philippines starts to recover from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, fiestas and celebrations are starting to return, giving Filipinos a well-needed dose of levity. In Ilocos Sur, the provincial government officially launched Kannawidan 2022 early this month (February), with a bevy of activities aimed at celebrating life and spreading joy. Opening the celebrations were the provincial government of Ilocos Sur, headed by Governor Ryan Luis Singson along with Vice Governor Jeremias Singson, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members, and officials and employees of local government units and national government agencies. The first night saw a dancing fountain show, a drone light show followed by a fireworks display that brightly blazed at the to...
